Coming Soon
For years, I had planned to start a rock festival for local bands because I felt there weren't enough venues where bands could perform for a large audience. With the assistance of Dennis Rourke from the Sound-band, I began organizing the festival. Dennis suggested that it should be a charity event, which led to the involvement of Carla Bouman, our liaison with the MCA local hospital. Carla also came up with the name "Feelgood Festival."
I managed to secure the Podium Atlantis venue in Alkmaar, thanks to its owner, Sietse. As I arranged the lineup of bands, I received help from Donica, the barmaid, who assisted me with a press release. For more than eight months, I worked tirelessly to prepare everything.
I decided to also serve as the compère and stage manager for the festival, but that proved to be too much after my own performance, as I collapsed from exhaustion. I handed the stage management role to local street musician Bertje Dopwertje.
The festival was a massive success. However, for the second year, I realized I needed help from others. I ran the festival for four years before deciding to step back from the Feelgood Festival. The festival continued for more than 20 years, but it eventually ran its course, and in 2024, it was decided to discontinue it. Although I had little involvement with the festival in later years, it was always my festival until the end.
I am currently working on plans for a new charity festival, titled "The Rolling Back The Cheese Festival." This event will bring together bands from the 1990s in the Alkmaar area, specifically those that began their journey around the time I started ZEEKtheFREAK. While this idea is still in its early stages, I will share future plans here.
